The Apartment

Introduction

chalet_front_crop

Chalet-Les-Vernets is a typical Savoyard chalet built around 1813 as a valley dwelling. Originally it would have had a stone built ground floor and then timber construction above. The chalet now has timber-clad masonry up to the roof level and has been sympathetically modernised and now incorporates a self contained 3 bedroom apartment as well as the main house.

The apartment was completed in it's present form at the end of 2014 and uses a fusion of traditional timber with modern insulation, glazing and heating to provide extremely spacious and characterful accommodation for 6 people.

The apartment is accessed through the ground floor entrance (storage for skis or bikes). It is completely separate and not overlooked (nor overlooks) the next door chalet. There is rear access onto a timber balcony that overlooks the garden and woods.

The lounge/dining room is spacious and equipped with two 3-seater settees, 40" LCD TV, DVD player, solid oak dining table and 6 chairs. Wireless internet is provided free of charge. The kitchen is located off this and is newly equipped with electric hobs, full size oven, extractor hood and fridge. The kitchen is adequately stocked with pans, crockery, cutlery etc.

The space is light and cosy. Electric heaters provide the ambient heating and all the insulation and super-efficient glazing ensure that it doesn't disappear.

Patio doors lead outside to the balcony.

Kitchen with solid wood bar for keeping the chef company (G&T in hand, of course).

The corridor leads to the bathroom:

Then the first bedroom with two singles. The ceiling slopes quickly down making this ideal for children,  OK for adults but with limited headroom.  A velux window looks up into the woods.

Next door is bedroom 2 with a double bed. This room has more headroom and offers views from the bed of the forest or snow falling if you're lucky!

Next door to this room is the 3rd bedroom. This was finished in November 2017, so pictures are to come. This has a double bed and is slightly bigger than the 2nd bedroom.  One window overlooks the parking area, and a Velux lets further light in the room.

The rear door leads onto a large wood terrace equipped with table, chairs.

We hope you'll appreciate it's character and cosiness.
